The Words Roll On

I’d like to start out by thanking everyone for their very supportive comments on my post from yesterday.  Just posting about it helped, but the things you said were even better.  Between both of those, it was a much better day than I had any right to hope for.  I feel more or less back to myself.  Of course, as always, it helps to have stuff to keep busy with.  And you all know I have plenty of that.

The edits for Ether Flows are still going well but slowly.  I’m now into Chapter 11 for markup, and Chapter 10 is finished completely. Yes, the book has continued to grow.  90k has been surpassed and there’s still 14 chapters to go…  Oh my.  I’m not really adding story either, just adding depth really.  There was one change I made, or rather something I moved forward, and that’s spiralling back into the book, but it’s turning out well (I think).

I’m trying not to think of the other stuff in my to-be-edited drawer, like The Nine, which I’d like to get to before August (very unlikely at this rate) and the outline for All Stitched up (have to get to that one soon, even if it means taking an evening off from Ether Flows).  I need to remember to take things one at a time.  If only my brain would cooperate with that notion.

What do I mean by that? Oh, just that Reah’s been getting loud again recently.  I’m fairly certain that the Spire of Time project, which I thought would be two books, just transformed into a trilogy, but it’s… well, it’s a wildly fantastic development, really, the things that caused this change.  Serious banging away at notes has been done for this.  But Reah’s going to have to be patient like Devan was.  I owe Devan his trilogy even more than I owed Tavis, and he’ll get it.  But at this rate, I’m going to have some killer material to put into the Spire project.

As if that wasn’t enough, Painted Picture is still whispering away, and I can feel Wings in the Mist simmering in the background, getting ready to explode at me again.  It’s just a matter of when.  Oh well, such a rough life, huh?  My, let me clean up that lake of sarcasm for you…

I’ve also gotten some of the feedback from this round for Bound.  It was down to the small stuff, which is always a good sign. Really, really need to get that cover started for this one. Oh, plus the initial comments on Possession from the same test reader were quite encouraging. 😀

So yeah, life rolls on, post-rejection.  They’re just part of the writing life, really.  I’m still having fun at least.  I’d like to have more time for this fun.  Can we just have one long permanent weekend please?  Really, is that so much to ask for?

About Julie

I'm a writer and photographer. I always have something with me to take notes for ideas or writing projects I'm thinking about or have on the go. I also like to go around with my camera and take pictures of anything that strikes me as beautiful or evocative. I'm perpetually working on one story or another, while waiting for enough distance to judge the last one (or more). I'm always working on several projects at once, developing the next book, even as I'm editing the last. Beyond that, there's always plenty of scraps and twists of ideas rolling around in my head, eventually turning themselves into full blown stories.

Glad to see you’re moving on past the “pass” and continuing to write. We’re looking forward to these books! 🙂

Thanks, as always, for the encouragement. We both know that I can’t stop writing. Not breathing would be easier than not writing. 🙂

Aand, here with my broken internet I missed your genius post on idea gardens (bookmark it: check) and your tragic rejection tale–I’m so sorry to hear that!!! 😦 And I’m so glad you’re over it. Mostly. 🙂 (condole with Julie: check).

    Also: face it, m’dear. You’re a trilogy writer. 😀
Glad to hear there is still whispering.

Note to self: go finish doing useful things so I can sit down and write like a good girl, like Julie.

Yeah, it does seem they all want to come up as trilogies. Oh well, worse things could happen. At least a trilogy is manageable for me. Those long series are, at least for the present, beyond me.

Oh, and writing it totally doing useful things! 🙂

    So happy for you 🙂
